About Stability AI Control Structure
Control Structure is a Stability AI image service that generates a new image while preserving the structure of an input image. You provide a reference picture and a prompt; the output keeps the broad arrangement of objects, shapes, and spatial relationships but changes how everything looks. It is the choice for restyling a photo or render without redrawing the scene. Sketch is its line-drawing counterpart.
Where it works well
- It holds the layout of the source image, so objects stay where they were while materials and mood change.
- Works from photos and renders, not only drawings, which sets it apart from Control Sketch.
- The prompt changes appearance (season, era, art style) without a mask or manual selection.
When to choose another model
- Fine details such as small text and faces are not guaranteed to survive the restyle.
- Editing one region while leaving the rest untouched is the job of Stability Inpaint.

Use cases
Restyling a photograph
Keep the framing of a street photo and render it as a watercolour, a night scene, or a winter version for a campaign.
Architectural visualisation
Feed a plain massing render and ask for a realistic material and lighting pass that keeps every wall and window in place.
Pose and layout reuse
Reuse the composition of a successful image across a series, changing only subject styling in the prompt.
Game and level mockups
Convert a grey-box scene screenshot into an art-directed environment concept with identical blocking.
Prompt examples
Keep this room layout exactly but restyle it as a mid-century living room, afternoon sun, film grain.
Turn this summer street photo into the same street under heavy snow at blue hour.
Re-render this white-box building massing as a glass and timber office with a landscaped plaza.
FAQ
What does Stability Control Structure do?
It creates a new image from a prompt while keeping the structure of an input image. Composition and object placement carry over; colour, texture, and style follow your prompt.
Does it need a sketch?
No. Any image can serve as the structure source, including photos and 3D renders. If your input is a rough hand drawing, Control Sketch is designed for that case.
Will faces and text stay identical?
Not reliably. The model keeps the broad arrangement, not pixel-level detail, so expect small elements to change. Check results before using them where exact likeness or wording matters.
How do I change only part of an image?
Use Stability Inpaint with a mask instead. Control Structure regenerates the whole picture around the preserved layout, so every region may change in appearance, whereas Inpaint leaves everything outside the mask exactly as it was.
Is Control Structure a text model?
No, it is an image-to-image service: an image and a prompt go in and an image comes out. It does not write text or answer questions, and it cannot generate anything from a prompt without a structure image.
How much does Stability AI Control Structure cost?
On TokenLab, Stability AI Control Structure costs $0.05 per image. The pricing table above shows the full breakdown. Rates depend on the billing unit, specification, and usage. Compare matching conditions in the model's detailed pricing; a single rate does not determine the total cost.
